Court shoots down Spokane Gun Club project

The Spokane Gun Club, established in 1947, is a premier shooting organization serving the Pacific Northwest region. The club hosts registered competitive shoots attracting participants from Washington, Montana, Idaho, and Oregon for multi-day events.

The Spokane Gun Club is a long-established shooting sports organization with deep roots in the regional competitive shooting community. The club organizes and hosts registered shoots—sanctioned competitive events that draw serious shooters from across the Pacific Northwest.

The organization previously operated a 99-acre gun and skeet range at 19615 E. Sprague in Spokane, which was sold to Central Valley School District in 2018 for $8 million. The club subsequently purchased a 451-acre parcel near Medical Lake (northwest corner of Thorpe Road and Brooks Road) in 2019 for $920,000 with plans to develop a new shooting range and clubhouse facility.

• •Note: A Washington state Court of Appeals ruling (January 2024) determined that the club's proposed RV parking accommodations for multi-day event attendees violated rural zoning restrictions. The court found that providing RV parking spaces and onsite restrooms met the definition of an RV park, which is prohibited in the rural zone. The club is exploring alternative development approaches and evaluating a secondary option on the West Plains near Fairchild Air Force Base.
