Coveys Shooting Preserve

Coveys Shooting Preserve sits 12 miles east of Dothan and specializes in plantation-style quail hunting across well-managed South Alabama habitat. They run guided hunts from October 1 through March 31, with flexible options for groups and solo hunters.

• •Morning hunts begin at 7:45-8:00 AM and run until 11:30 AM. Afternoon hunts start at 2:00 PM and continue until 5:00 PM or dark. Both sessions follow the same structure: safety meeting at the barn, buggy ride to hunting grounds, warm-up rounds on a wobble trap clay target station, then the actual hunt.

Minimum 4-gun hunts; special pricing available for smaller groups

If you're bringing your own shotgun, they prefer 20 gauge or smaller. If not, gun rentals run $30/day. Shells cost $20/box. The preserve handles your license requirements—you just need a valid Alabama hunting license before you start.

Their habitat includes piney woods, row crop fields, and broomsage areas, all actively managed for quail. This variety gives different hunting conditions depending on the day and season.

Walking boots, shotgun/shells (or rent theirs), a shooting vest with shell storage (6 available to borrow), orange clothing appropriate for the weather, and an orange hat if your vest lacks blaze orange.
