Location details and information

Swan Creek WMA Shooting Range is a public range in Tanner, Alabama, operated by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries in cooperation with the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Four ranges at 25, 50, and 100 yards sit side by side, separated by a dividing berm so shooters can use them independently, with shooting distances up to 100 yards. Firearms are fired only from designated stations on a concrete shooting line into an embankment, at stationary paper targets or self-healing and metal automatic-reset targets.

A clay target area sits north of the 100-yard rifle range for shooting moving clay targets with shot no larger than no. 4. Shooters register with the range officer at the Range House before proceeding to the firing line, and single shooters are not permitted to shoot without someone to pull for them. Shotguns may also be used on the rifle/pistol range for patterning only.

All ranges are wheelchair accessible, with concrete walkways to the target lines.

Any legal firearm and ammunition may be used except armor-piercing, tracer, or incendiary/explosive rounds.

Restrictions

  • •Valid hunting, heritage, or WMA license required for most shooters
  • •No armor-piercing, tracer, incendiary, or explosive ammunition
  • •Shotguns limited to No. 4 shot or smaller for clay targets
  • •No alcoholic beverages allowed
  • •All brass and targets must be collected and disposed of properly
  • •No commercial use permitted
