Full description and what we offer
Adventure Outfitters Alaska (AOA) is based 12 miles north of Kenai, operating from the AWA Sea Plane Base. Their guided fishing trips use float planes to access remote waters across Cook Inlet where you won't find the crowds that pack the road-accessible rivers like the Kenai, Kasilof, and Russian.
The operation targets wild Pacific salmon runs with an emphasis on: - Sockeye salmon (red salmon) - peak runs in July, especially on the Big River Lakes and Nushagak River - Silver salmon (coho) - late season runs in August and September - King salmon (chinook) - available June through summer on select locations - Arctic grayling - mountain lake flats - Trophy pike - 28" average with personal record of 47", shallow lake shoreline hunts
"Guided salmon fishing is our specialty at Adventure Outfitters Alaska. Our guides have over 75 years of experience on the rivers we fish on the Kenai Peninsula and beyond."
| Trip Type | Flight Time | Cost | Availability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Salmon fishing | Varies by location | $600-$765 pp | June-September |
| Pike fishing | 1 hour | $825 pp | May-September |
| Full guided trips | 6 hours start-to-finish | $575-$1,200 pp | Seasonal |
Trips are typically 6 hours total (flight + fishing). You bring a small backpack with your fishing license, rain gear, lunch, and water. Hip waders provided when needed. Fishing happens from boats or shore depending on location.
These locations are only accessible by float plane, which keeps crowds minimal and gives you genuine Alaskan wilderness experience.
Adventure Outfitters also offers unguided/DIY black bear hunts on the Kenai Peninsula during peak autumn berry season (August-September). Unlike typical spring baiting or coastal boating hunts, AOA focuses on spot-and-stalk hunting above treeline when bears forage in alpine meadows.
High-alpine berry country - Crowberries, salmonberries, blueberries, and cranberries keep bears active and visible. Hunts feature: - Base camps on mountain lakes (no full-mountain climbs each day) - Extensive glassing of hillsides - Long shots common (300+ yards) - Multiple bears per group typical - Success rate in the high 80s
Kenai Peninsula black bears compete with brown bears for resources but have large populations—many units allow 3-bear limit per hunter. Southeast Alaska has higher trophy populations but costs double.
