He learned hide work from a patient taxidermist named Clint Fick as a boy, then hired on as a guide at twenty under Ben Forbes—an 80-year-old master with decades of experience. Three decades later, Lucas runs the operation himself.

What sets them apart: small parties only. Two to four hunters per trip, not ten. Thirty years of guiding in Southeast has proven this drives success.
- •Big game: Brown bear (spring/fall), black bear (spring/fall), mountain goat (early/late season), Sitka blacktail deer, wolf
- •Fishing: Fly fishing for wild steelhead and salmon; saltwater halibut, rockfish, and salmon in summer
- •Bonus: Sea ducks included free on late-season deer and goat hunts when birds are in full plumage
Based in Petersburg, operating under USFS special use permit. Your base camp is a 50-foot boat with warm bunks and hearty meals. Located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest.
