Frank Danford's been taking hunters into the Alaskan wilderness for nearly 50 years. D&L Outfitters operates under special use permits on the Chugach National Forest, running fly-in hunts out of established camps that don't cut corners on comfort.
Most outfitters talk about "authentic experiences." D&L actually delivers it. Camp includes a real latrine and hot showers—not something every remote Alaskan guide outfit provides. Meals are gourmet, prepped by people who actually care about food after 10-14 hour hunt days. Your trip gets individually designed around your physical condition and preferences. Frank personally handles meat processing, taxidermy recommendations, and shipping logistics.
Transportation to sheep camp runs via experienced bush pilots flying Maule 4-seat planes. Every hunt is 1-on-1 guided with a Registered Alaska Hunting Guide.

Brown Bear Hunts Hunt from the only non-native, non-governmental land on the river system. Spring hunts offer grayling and rainbow fishing alongside bear glassing. Fall hunts have silver salmon. Both seasons available—not all Alaska outfitters offer this.
Grizzly Bear Hunts These hunts demand physical fitness and shooting confidence. Grizzlies come in silver tip, dark brown, blonde, and blonde with dark boots. They charge when hit, so Frank emphasizes knowing your weapon. Lots of high-elevation glassing required.
Dall Sheep Hunts Fly-in only to three different areas. One is drawing-only, two are harvest. Success depends entirely on your physical conditioning—steep hill climbing with full packs on descent. Worth it for the trophy.
Moose Hunts Hunt trophy moose with four brow tines per side, minimum 50-inch spread. Most hunting happens in hip waders through swamps and alder-thick river corridors. September 1-20 season.
Caribou Hunts August 20-September 20 season. Caribou hunting involves watching herds move over hills. They're unpredictable—sometimes they run, sometimes they circle back to investigate. Great table meat and impressive wall mounts.
Mountain Goat Hunts One of the most physically demanding hunts. Goats live around glaciers and cliff faces. Pre-training is mandatory. They make exceptional rugs for walls.
During summer months, D&L also offers fishing guide services and wildlife viewing adventures. Most physical limitations can be accommodated with advance notice.
Call 907-230-0176 or email [email protected]. Reservations are accepted year-round for upcoming seasons. Upon receipt of a 50% deposit, your exact hunt dates lock in. Frank handles all the logistics—you just show up ready to hunt.
Caribou is a drawing hunt for non-residents. Paperwork submits in November each year. International visitor fees are slightly higher.
