Full description and what we offer
Alaska Expedition Hunting runs two remote lodges on Alaska's Gulf Coast—the TSIU River Lodge and Pumice Creek Lodge—about 250 miles east of Anchorage and 100 miles from Cordova. This is serious backcountry hunting territory, accessed by bush plane from Yakutat.
Specialty is Trophy Yukon Moose near the TSIU River, but they also guide hunts for: - Brown Bear (Grizzly) - Black Bear - Mountain Goat - Combo hunts mixing multiple species
Owned and operated by Jason Semler and Leslie Semler, along with Charles and Jody, the operation has been running since 1991. Their guides bring 20+ years of field experience—not seasonal hacks, but professionals who fish the river during off-season, building deep knowledge of animal movements and habitat.
"We are not a production outfitter." They typically limit camps to just 2 hunters per 7-10 day hunt, spacing expeditions over Alaska's longest hunting season to give clients real wilderness, not crowded conditions.
With a special use permit, they have exclusive access to 82,000 acres of the Yakataga State Game Refuge. The lodges function as full-service fishing operations too, meaning guides spend more time in the field year-round than typical hunting-only outfitters.
Flights run multiple times weekly from Anchorage to Yakutat (YAK), then a short scenic bush plane ride to lodge. It's remote—that's the point.
They emphasize safety, camp logistics, and genuine support. Previous guests are their best advertisement—they provide reference lists from the prior season and encourage calling them directly. This isn't a flashy operation; it's professionals doing hard work in wild country.
