Alaska Knifeworks sits inside Merchants Wharf on the downtown Juneau waterfront—the only way to reach Alaska's capital is by boat or plane, which tells you something about the clientele and the tools they need. Founder David Summers brought a lifetime of outdoor experience to the mission: he's Coast Guard-licensed for commercial Big Game Services, a certified Wilderness Emergency Medical Technician, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Each knife is one-of-a-kind due to natural material variations. Alaska Knifeworks recommends handling them in-store to ensure proper fit—they can't choose the right knife for your hand, only you can.
