Full description and what we offer
H&H Alaskan Outfitters is a family-owned operation based in Soldotna, Alaska, founded in 2013 by Justin Horton after years of assistant guiding revealed opportunities to deliver something different. This isn't a fill-your-tags-and-go operation—every hunt is treated as if it were their own.
Justin spent nearly 15 years with Alaska's largest air cargo carrier, giving him extensive knowledge of air logistics. He holds a 50-gross-ton Coast Guard license and is a nationally registered paramedic/firefighter with 18 years of emergency response experience. That matters. When something goes wrong in remote Alaska, skilled medical professionals in the field aren't a luxury—they're essential. He's a member of the Alaska Professional Hunter's Association (Guide #1332) and holds Safari Club International life membership.
His wife Christy is the other "H," handling operations and ensuring every detail runs smoothly.
H&H offers fully guided hunts for:
Alaska Peninsula - Private Concession: They lease private land exclusively for their clients—not a federal guide concession where resident hunters compete with you. Located near Ursus Cove in the shadow of Mt. Augustine, this remote hunt sits an hour's flight from Kenai. The track record is strong: average bears over 9 feet, several skulls exceeding 27 inches.
Fall hunts (October 1-10): Offered on odd years (2023, 2025, 2027). Bears are feeding heavily on salmon, with premium hides in preparation for winter.
Spring hunts (May 10-19 and May 21-30): Offered on even years (2024, 2026, 2028). More daylight for spotting and stalking, generally better weather. Big boars are pursuing females.
Both are 10-day hunts with travel days. Sitka black-tail deer can be added in fall.
Arctic Grizzly: These interior bears (7-9 feet, some skulls 24+") have rarely seen humans and sport thick, flawless coats unlike coastal cousins. Hunts run April 15-June 15 from villages on the Seward Peninsula (Nome, Brevig Mission, Shishmaref). You'll use snowmobiles and 8-wheel Argos in barren tundra where glassing is highly effective. This is a drawing tag (roughly 60% odds, applied November-December for the following year).
Alaska/Yukon moose are among North America's largest ungulates, growing impressive antlers under the long summer sun. A bush plane flight from Nome drops you at Nomad Base Camp—their hub for northern operations. These hunts offer opportunities unlike anything else in North America.
Barren Ground Caribou grow the largest headgear relative to body size in the deer family. Part of the Western Arctic Caribou herd, they roam the tussock grasses of the tundra. You'll scout nomadic animals from an 8-wheel Argo—mobile hunting in harsh terrain.
Physical & Mental Prep: "The 7 P's: Proper, Prior, Planning, Prevents, Piss, Poor, Performance." Talk to your doctor about a conditioning plan for uneven terrain, climbing, wading, and hiking. Being in shape impacts both success and enjoyment. Mental toughness matters too—long days glassing in cold, wind, and rain test anyone.
Specific hunt pricing available by contact.
Fall storms exceed 70 mph with horizontal rain, dropping from mid-40s to freezing. Spring brings snow and torrential wind-driven rain. Wind is constant. Proper clothing isn't optional. A detailed gear list is provided.
"From your first inquiry until your trophy is home, it is our mission to provide you with a hunting experience that far exceeds your expectations. A list of references can be provided upon request."
