HuntWise isn't an outfitter or guide service—it's the research tool serious Alaska hunters use to plan hunts from home. The platform combines detailed season calendars, interactive mapping layers, and predictive animal movement data so you can identify promising areas and timing before spending money on the trip.
Maps & E-Scouting Mark and study the best hunting areas across Alaska's 26 units without leaving your desk. Layer terrain, unit boundaries, and management areas to understand the geography before you arrive.
Season Information Every hunt in Alaska is unit-specific. Dates vary wildly—deer seasons might open August 1 in one unit and October 15 in another. Bag limits, resident vs. non-resident rules, and permit requirements all change by location. HuntWise compiles the current 2025-2026 season dates for:
RutCast & Animal Movement Animal behavior patterns shift with season and conditions. RutCast helps you predict when and where game will be active, improving your odds of being in the right place at the right time.
HuntCast & WindCast Weather drives hunt success. Get detailed forecasts and wind pattern predictions for your hunting area to plan your stalk and setup.
Alaska hunting is complex. The state spans 665,000 square miles with units ranging from coastal rainforests to high-altitude tundra. Seasons open and close on different dates in different areas. Non-residents face restrictions that don't apply to residents. A hunt that works in Unit 1 won't work in Unit 16.
HuntWise handles the research so you can focus on preparation and execution.
The platform saves hundreds in wasted planning time and helps prevent costly mistakes—like booking a trip during a closed season or targeting an area with restrictive bag limits.
HuntWise partners with gear retailers so you can source everything you need—binoculars, optics, spotting scopes, hunting knives, and layered clothing for Alaska's extreme conditions. The app helps you identify what you're missing before you head into the field.
Hunter Education: Alaska requires a Basic Hunter Education course for hunting in some areas (unless you're under 18 and accompanied by a licensed adult hunter).
Licenses & Tags: You'll need a current hunting license. For big game, you'll also need locking tags and harvest tickets. Tag costs range from a few hundred dollars to $3,000 for muskox.
Draw Hunts: Some hunts require winning a draw. Results are announced in late February. But plenty of hunts don't require draws—if you missed the deadline, there are still opportunities.
Guides: Some hunts require outfitter/guide services. Check your specific unit regulations.
Alaska divides hunting into 26 units with sub-areas. The same species hunts completely differently depending on location:
Each unit has different season dates, bag limits, and resident/non-resident rules.
Start by identifying what you want to hunt and where. Check HuntWise for 2025-2026 season dates in your target unit. Map the terrain. Study animal movement patterns. Identify gaps in your gear. Then book your outfitter, plan logistics, and execute the hunt of a lifetime.
Alaska hunting isn't for casual hunters—it demands preparation, fitness, and the right gear. HuntWise gives you the information advantage.
