Greg Acord started guiding Kodiak bear hunters in 1988, learning from legendary bear guides Bill Pinnell and Morris Talifson. He's been conducting hunts in the Halibut Bay Guide Use Area ever since—an exclusive zone within the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge that sits about 80 miles south of Kodiak town.
"He knows how to put his hunters on big bears time and time again. Awe-inspiring hunts in one of the world's most beautiful places." ― Satisfied Customer
Permits are guaranteed—not a draw. Acord Guide Service receives 3 permits each spring and 2 each fall, typically running 2 hunts in spring and 1 in fall. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game manages the population to keep it healthy and trophy-quality high.
You fly into Kodiak airport, then charter a float aircraft to basecamp. Greg handles the scheduling.
Basecamp features comfortable outfitter tents with cots, tables, propane heaters, and lanterns. Meals are hearty home-cooked food—steaks, pork chops, fried chicken, spaghetti, ribs, breakfast fare. Camps are dry, clean, and equipped with satellite phone and emergency radios.
All brown bear hides and skulls receive expert preparation in camp and are sealed at the Alaska Department of Fish and Game before leaving the island. Trophies ship home with you or via freight collect.
Greg is fully insured and first aid certified. His commitment: do everything possible within the law to make your hunt safe, successful, and the experience of a lifetime. All hunts follow fair chase principles and are conducted in a sportsmanlike, lawful manner.
