Full description and what we offer
Kodiak Raspberry Island Remote Lodge sits on Raspberry Island between Kodiak and Afognak, operating as a full-service wilderness hunting lodge since the mid-1980s. The family knows this country inside out—founder has hunted these mountains, shores, and surrounding areas since childhood.
The lodge specializes in trophy collection hunts targeting: - Harlequin ducks - Barrow's goldeneye - Long-tailed ducks - White-winged, surf, and black scoters - Additional species (mallard, wigeon, gadwall, bufflehead, merganser, scaup) within 15 minutes by boat
Hunts focus on fair-chase methods with one and two-person layout boats, a 28' custom-built offshore duck boat, species-specific decoys, and flexible beach blinds targeting birds in their natural wintering grounds.
Season runs mid-October through mid-January, with peak hunts in December when abundant birds winter in protected bays, channels, and sloughs. By late November, remaining sea ducks have acquired bright winter plumage—prime for taxidermy collection. Most migrant ducks have departed Alaska by then, reducing competition and increasing success rates.
Flexibility is their specialty: hunt a different area each day with minimal travel time and first-light hunting in new locations daily.
Accommodations: - Heated private guest cabins with complete bathrooms - Flannel sheets and down comforters - Outdoor jetted hot tub - Wood-fired banya (sauna)
"I felt not so much a client as an old friend. The hearty meals and warm, dry cabins give inspiration to hike the hills and brave the weather. In five days I had rain, fog, snow, high winds, sunshine, flat calm water, and seas too rough to venture forth. An experience I will never forget." ~ Tim V., Alaska
