Mike's team assists with draw permit applications online at Alaska Department of Fish and Game (November 1-December 15 for following year hunts). Clients have a good chance of drawing—50 permits available in his hunt area.
Clients fly commercial to Kodiak Airport, where they're met by a guide or air charter representative. Mike coordinates float-plane transportation (Cessna 185, Cessna 206, DeHavilland Beaver) to/from the wilderness house. Clients pay for commercial airfare and air charter services separately.
For departure, Mike recommends staying 1-2 days in Kodiak or Anchorage for trophy processing, shipping meat home, or expediting trophy to a taxidermist.
"This was probably the most professionally operated hunt of my life. Best customer service from arrival to departure." — Robert T. Neises, Crown Point, Indiana
"My hunting partner and I were successful early, so Mike gave us a tour of Anchorage and even enjoyed some Rainbow trout fishing." — Konstantin Spasskiy, Moscow, Russia
"I've hunted around the world with many guides and outfitters, Mike and his staff are top-shelf. He got my son and I on two huge Alaska Peninsula Brown Bears." — Jack Sims, Evanston, Wyoming
Mike strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance with trip cancellation coverage. He also recommends Global Rescue membership for medical advisory and evacuation (1-435-680-2566 or 1-617-210-8110).
All clients must sign a Guide-Outfitter Contract within 90 days of deposit or before services begin. A State of Alaska Guide/Outfitter Hunt Record and Participation Release Form are completed at the start of each hunt.
Successful Alaska hunts require 1-2 years of advance planning. Mike provides printable gear lists for each hunt type: - Pre-hunt checklist - Spring/fall brown bear hunt lists - Moose hunt list - Sheep and goat hunt list - Sitka deer hunt list - Sea duck hunt list - Fishing list
Hunters pack in multiple small waterproof bags for transport on bush planes. Rifle hard cases and travel clothes bags should be left with the air charter service.
