Central Coast Outfitters

Central Coast Outfitters has guided hunts across California's coast since 1995, operating on a network of private ranches from King City south to Santa Barbara County. They specialize in five primary game types with seasonal availability and different hunt experiences depending on location and terrain.

• •Tule Elk - Spring hunts on the Peachtree Ranch, a 50,000-acre Spanish Rancho 12 miles east of King City. The property is historic ground: Miller and Lux, who saved tule elk from extinction, once ran cattle here. The ranch became a retreat for famous cowboys in the 1920s (Tom Mix, Gene Autry, Will Rogers). Spring brings wildflowers, green hillsides, lakes, and ponds—scenic hunting that's hard to forget.

• •Black Tail Deer & Black Bear - B-Zone hunts in Mendocino County are their flagship offering. Hunters see bucks scoring 135-175 SCI, with black bear on the same hunt. The experience includes a river-side cabin where you can hear salmon and steelhead spawning at night, and see deer and bear from the porch at dawn. Record-book blacktail opportunity is real here. Tags are limited—book early.

• •Spring Turkey - Four private ranches (two in San Luis Obispo County, two in Southern Monterey County). Season runs late March through early May. The Central Coast is stunning in spring, and these ranches hold big toms.

• •A-Zone Deer, Pig, Quail & Dove - Santa Barbara County hunts with a 100% success rate on deer. Wild boar hunts year-round for novice or experienced hunters. Quail and dove hunts late October through late January. Two-person minimum on non-deer hunts. Non-lead ammunition required.

• •Pheasant & Chukar - Planted bird hunts at the RS Bar Guest Lodge in San Benito County. Stay on the ranch in a full-service lodge with suites, fireplaces, and river views. Cooks prepare BBQ dinner on the lodge porch. The property also features a sporting clays range, trap range, and rifle range extending to 1,000 yards with silhouette targets.
