Full description and what we offer
Pistol Creek Outfitters operates across 300 square miles (Unit 27) of the Frank Church Wilderness in Central Idaho, accessible only by chartered aircraft and horseback. This is remote hunting on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River—where most game have never encountered human pressure.
Hunters fly into their private airstrip, then travel by horseback to well-equipped spike camps at elevation. The operation works with multiple charter operators for reliable access. This isn't an easy hunt—it's physical, demanding, and designed to test you against elk on their terms, in their habitat.
"The guides are experienced and responsible. I have hunted with Pistol Creek Outfitters for over 20 years and have enjoyed some of my most memorable hunting experiences with them." — Dwight L. Merriman, Vail, CO
Repeat hunters cite three things: the remote, untracked terrain where game see minimal pressure; the quality and professionalism of the guides; and the complete isolation that forces you to disconnect from everything else. Multiple clients report 12+ years and 15+ years of repeat hunts.
The Frank Church Wilderness offers one of the most diverse and wild hunting environments in the lower 48 states. Animals here have genuinely never seen hunters.
Operates under a special use permit on the Salmon-Challis National Forest. Private airstrip with charter service access makes getting into this remote area feasible without weeks of horseback approach.
