California Airgun Shooters Association (CASA) started in 1984 and stands as one of the oldest—if not the oldest—Field Target club in the United States. What began as a regional group has grown into a active competitive organization that runs year-round matches across southern California.
CASA focuses on three main competition disciplines:
- •Field Target - The core competition format with 12-13 shooting lanes, 2 targets per lane, and 48-52 total shots taken from sitting, kneeling, and standing positions at distances between 10-55 yards
- •Airgun Silhouette - Precision shooting at silhouette targets
- •Airgun Benchrest - Accuracy-focused competition from bench rest
Matches run under AAFTA divisions (American Airgun Field Target Association) in both PCP and Piston classes:
| Division | Description |
|---|---|
| Hunter | Factory-stock airguns |
| Open | Modified within rules |
| World Field Target Federation (WFTF) | International standard |
| Freestyle | Unrestricted builds |
CASA runs at least one fully AAFTA-sanctioned match annually where all competitors follow strict AAFTA rules. Most matches are informally shot to encourage participation.
All shooters must: - Shoot .177 to .22 caliber pellets - Keep energy below 20 foot pounds (fpe) - Wear safety glasses and a hat - Pay match fees ($15-$20) - Complete range orientation
Skill level doesn't matter—all shooters are welcome.
