Full description and what we offer
Rick and Rich Nelson—a father-son team from Grand Junction—transformed shale hills southeast of Delta into a working game bird hunting operation in November 1998. Rick's childhood memories of Kansas hunting inspired the vision: a place where hunters could walk through live fields, watch birds flush, and safely introduce newcomers to the sport. By early September 1998, irrigation systems and hard work had created the lush conditions needed to support thousands of released birds.
No guide required. Walk your fields with your dog and hunt as much as you want—there are no bag limits or possession limits. The preserve maintains diverse cover types: narrow strips for small parties, lighter cover for training dogs, and heavy cover for experienced hunters seeking a challenge.
Guides cost $120 for 3 hunters ($40 per additional hunter), plus a free round of wobble trap. Guides bring trained bird dogs and share hunting tips throughout the day. This option works if you don't have your own dog.
Members get priority reservations, discounted pricing, and access to all clubhouse amenities. Summer access for dog training and wobble trap shoots by appointment.
