Steve Lutz Jr was born and raised in Windsor and started hunting waterfowl at age 8. After 30 years guiding along the Colorado Front Range and running a successful goose and duck hunting club for over a decade, he launched Birds of Fall Outfitters to expand into full outfitting operations.
Birds of Fall operates exclusive hunting rights on all properties from north of Wellington to south of Greeley. The outfit manages and controls these lands to keep hunting pressure low and birds comfortable—meaning better shooting opportunities.
- •Goose Hunts put you in pit blinds (most locations), A-frame blinds, or layouts over harvested corn, wheat, or barley fields. Decoy spreads range from 5 to 100+ dozen using full body, silhouettes, and shell decoys. Heaters provided. Fields are scouted daily.
- •Duck Hunts split into two types: water hunts for divers (redheads, ring necks, golden eyes, bufflehead) and puddle ducks (mallards, wigeons, gadwalls, pintails, teal) from above-ground blinds and pits. Dry field duck hunts target corn-fed mallards, wood ducks, pintails, and wigeons from pit blinds and A-frames.
- •Snow Goose Conservation Hunts (2026 season) use a permanent pit with 3,000-decoy setup and digital calling system. $300 per gun, max 8 hunters.
Colorado holds roughly 25,000 local geese year-round. During migration funneling down the Rocky Mountains, wintering populations reach upwards of 300,000—plenty of birds to hunt.

Kids Hunt Free: Children 12 and under hunt free with a paying adult (one child per adult). Groups larger than 6 may be split into two groups.
