Full description and what we offer
Fort McIntosh Conservation Area traces back to 1875, when Ralph Spalding McIntosh made the cross-country journey from Connecticut to Colorado's wild frontier. He eventually founded McIntosh Dairy in 1904—a family business that's still operating. That same sense of adventure and land stewardship got passed down through generations.
In 2001, the McIntosh family launched an ambitious conservation project: restoring the Fort McIntosh Conservation Area to its historical state, reintroducing native grasses, wildlife species, and the Eastern Plains elk that once dominated the region.
"Travel back in time to hunt native game on the high plains of Colorado. The way it once was, the way it was when our family first settled in this great state."
This isn't a typical outfitter operation. Fort McIntosh is an active conservation area actively managing habitat restoration alongside hunting opportunities. Hunts take place on the high plains where these species historically thrived, not transplanted to unfamiliar terrain.
This is a conservation-focused operation—your hunt supports active restoration of native species and prairie ecosystems on the high plains.
