Guide Hunting

Guidehunting provides the information and training pathway for guides looking to operate legally in Connecticut. Whether you're starting a hunting guide service or a fishing guide operation, they walk you through state requirements, registration, and the skills you need to succeed.

Connecticut requires all guides to register with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Registration is handled through DEEP's Online Sportsmen Licensing system at ct.gov/deep/sportsmenlicensing or in person at DEEP offices. The registration fee is $100.

Always ensure you and your clients have the necessary hunting and fishing licenses for the game you'll be pursuing.

Beyond registration, successful hunting guides in Connecticut need:

• •Boat Operators: If you're using a vessel, a USCG "six-pack" passenger-for-hire license is required when operating on navigable waters (Long Island Sound, Thames River, Connecticut River north to Hartford, Housatonic River downstream of Derby Dam). Guides using vessels for marine fishing are limited to two customers per trip.
