Full description and what we offer
Henlopen Waterfowl is a guided waterfowl hunting operation run by Captain Riley Hicks, who spent two decades on Delaware waters before formalizing his passion into a guide service. In February 2025, he achieved his goal of becoming a USCG Licensed Captain (OUPV 6-Pack), graduating top of his class. What started as a dream with "only a couple dollars in his pocket" around 2019 has grown into a fully-licensed Delaware guide service.
Captain Riley Hicks holds multiple licenses and certifications that matter on the water:
| Credential | Details |
|---|---|
| USCG License | OUPV (6-Pack) Licensed Captain |
| Safety Certs | Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Certified; Coast Guard-recognized Emergency University CPR |
| State License | Licensed Delaware Waterfowl Guide |
| Security | TWIC Card (TSA and FBI background check) |
| Boating | US Power Squadron Boating Safety Course (since 2014) |
You will get wet. Captain Hicks doesn't sugarcoat it: these are water-based hunts. Bring proper gear and be prepared for potential seasickness on the boat ride. But you'll have a safe, plentiful, and fun hunt—though remember, hunting isn't guaranteed limits.
Hunters need valid Delaware licenses and stamps before the hunt. Captain Hicks has a detailed guide on his site for obtaining a Delaware Resident/Non-Resident hunting license (3-day or full year), Delaware State Duck Stamp, Federal Duck Stamp, and HIP Number. He recommends handling this 2-3 weeks in advance since DNREC verification can take time. Licenses are checked morning of the hunt.
Henlopen Waterfowl operates under clear ground rules: no unsafe hunting practices will be tolerated and result in immediate termination with no refund. Captain Hicks is straightforward about liability—personal injuries and gear damage are not his responsibility. But he'll do everything in his power to give you a quality hunt experience.
