Full description and what we offer

C. Buck Andrews built Fish Tales Taxidermy Studio on a foundation most taxidermists never have: genuine passion for fishing. Growing up outside Chicago, he spent spring weekends on Lake Michigan chasing Coho and Smelt with his dad, summers in Ely Minnesota, and every fall returning for Chinook Salmon and Brown Trout runs. That childhood obsession with the mounted fish hanging in local bait shops eventually became a craft.

In his late teens, Andrews started practicing taxidermy in his parents' garage after a Lake Geneva Fishing Club member—a pharmacist who taxidermied on the side—agreed to teach him the basics. Four decades later, he's still doing it, only now he's better at it than ever.

Andrews doesn't do skin mounts anymore. His specialty is reproductions and custom habitats—creating lifelike fish mounts from blanks, or building three-dimensional dioramas of your catch in realistic water environments.

GradeDescriptionPrice
EconomyBasic body/scale detail, simple painting$17/inch
PremiumAward-winning detail, competition-style painting$23/inch

Habitat Scenes start at $175 minimum, with additional charges for panels, driftwood, plants, packaging, and shipping.

50% deposit required to start any order. He accepts personal/company checks, Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover.

If you have a frozen fish to ship for a custom mold reproduction, check his "Trophy Care" page for specific freezing and shipping instructions.

Habitat mounts are the signature service. Andrews will work with you on: - Splash scenes (fish breaking water) - Stringer mounts (multiple fish displays) - Aquatic scenes (fish in realistic water environment) - Chase scenes (predator/prey dynamics) - Whatever your imagination comes up with

These aren't flat wall mounts—they're three-dimensional dioramas designed to capture action and tell the actual story of your catch.

Andrews offers a referral and repeat-customer program that actually stacks:

  • Every reproduction you order = 15 fish tails (15% discount on future work)
  • Every customer you refer who orders = 15 fish tails
  • Fish tails accumulate and can be used anytime
  • 100 fish tails = completely FREE reproduction (plus free prep, packaging, standard ground shipping)
  • Maximum free reproduction size: 42 inches. Minimum: 20 inches.

Example: Order one reproduction (15 tails), refer two customers (30 tails), order another (15 tails) = 60 tails earned toward your next mount or saved toward a free one.

"Pretty cool deal that no other taxidermist offers, none!"

  • Refund Policy: 14-day window to cancel with full deposit refund. After 14 days, all sales are final—deposits go directly to order your custom reproduction blank from his vendors, who don't accept returns once production starts.
  • Payment Timeline: 30 days to pay your final balance once your reproduction is complete. After 30 days, unpaid mounts are sold off to his network of buyers. No extensions. No second chances.
  • Completion Time: Check his "Completion Time Explained" page for current turnaround—varies based on workload and reproduction type.
