In 1991, Ron Coburn invented the Snail® System—a fundamentally different approach to bullet containment. Instead of smashing bullets on impact and creating lead dust clouds, the Snail® System decelerates rounds in a circular chamber where they lose energy naturally and drop into a collection tray.
That single innovation revolutionized the entire shooting range industry. Now Savage Range Systems manufactures a complete line of bullet traps, shoot houses, target systems, and range equipment based on this core technology.

These aren't standard structures. Savage builds them from overlapping AR500 steel plates bolted together—seams overlap by at least 3", walls are 1/2" thick steel. The construction method eliminates gaps and contains every ounce of splatter.
Design features: - 4' wide wall panels, 8'/10'/12' height options - All seams overlap minimum 3" - All interior and exterior doors/windows can be ballistic-rated - Tactical breaching door option designed to withstand forcible entry tools - Replaceable breaching inserts eliminate full door replacement - Built on solid concrete foundations - Modular design allows future layout changes or relocation - Catwalk option with exterior stairway (OSHA-compliant)
"We don't believe you can over-build shoot houses for safety or durability. Our unconventional use of steel plating results in shoot houses that are virtually indestructible."
Manufactures durable, weather-resistant target systems that match the strength and durability of their bullet traps. Full line of range components available through quote request.
Savage emphasizes that bullet trap decisions aren't just about purchase price. Total cost includes:
Over time, the Wet Snail® System costs considerably less than alternatives because it minimizes maintenance, uses durable AR500 steel, and simplifies bullet recovery.
Savage maintains a comprehensive range glossary, FAQ section, technical literature, and multimedia resources to help facilities design custom solutions. They exhibit at major industry shows and work directly with law enforcement, military, and commercial range operators.
