Legacy Sports International operates one of America's largest Cerakote and hydrographics facilities in an unmarked Reno industrial building. What looks modest from the street conceals a cavernous 50,000-square-foot warehouse where 300 to 500 semi-automatic shotguns and rifles get finished every two weeks.
The company imports and distributes firearms—primarily Pointer semi-automatic shotguns from Turkey, Howa rifles from Japan, Nikko Stirling scopes, Hardy rifles from New Zealand, Citadel handguns, and Brazilian rifles. What sets them apart is the in-house customization:
Cerakote is applied at 0.001-inch thickness using high-volume, low-pressure spray guns. Metal parts cure at 250°F, polymers at 150-180°F. NIC Industries claims the finish lasts 3,500 hours without rust or corrosion. The precision matters—especially on firearms where tolerances between parts are mission-critical.
Legacy specializes in customization for fundraiser auction guns through partnerships with Ducks Unlimited, National Wild Turkey Foundation, Delta Waterfowl, Pheasants Forever, Ruffed Grouse Society, California Waterfowl, the NRA, Safari Club International, and the Mule Deer Foundation.
"We focus on conservation groups more than many competitors do," explains Executive Vice President Andy McCormick. Custom logos and color work boost perceived value at events.
From concept to finished firearm takes 60 to 90 days. Legacy doesn't accept individual custom work—they handle special projects and production runs. They brought Cerakote in-house in January 2015 after outsourcing initially, realizing tighter quality control was essential as volumes grew.
Budget Alternative to Engravings: Professional Cerakote customization costs around $600—a fraction of hand-engraved shotguns while delivering bold visual personalization.
