Full description and what we offer
Kaluakoi Outfitters runs all-inclusive guided hunts across 3,000 acres of private land on Molokai. Second and third-generation hunters—carrying on a legacy started by Harry Nobuo "Nobu" Shimizu—lead every trip. This is family-owned operation that treats hunting as both a skill and a philosophy.
Every booking covers: - Bunkhouse lodging with running water and cots - Airport transportation (to/from Molokai) - Utility terrain vehicles for daily hunts - Two animals per hunter (one buck under 27" and a doe, OR two does) - Safety equipment and guide assistance - Meat icing and deboning help
50% deposit required at booking. 72-hour cancellation required for refunds (only if your slot gets rebooked). Bring your own meals, drinks, meat storage bags, and coolers—or pay $100/guest for grocery shopping plus 10% convenience fee.
- •Rifle Hunts are straightforward all-inclusive packages. Minimum caliber .223. Hunters must wear hunter orange in the field. Firearms stored unloaded between hunts, ammo never chambered during UTV rides. The guide handles setup, you handle the trigger.
- •Bow Hunts are the real test. Axis deer are fast, sharp, and wired for survival. Rocky terrain, thick brush, steep stalks. You need ankle-supporting boots, camo, and the mental toughness for long pursuits with no guarantees. Same two-animal limit. Same private land advantage. Different animal entirely.
The west side of Molokai isn't a manicured hunting ground. Rocky in spots. Thick brush. Steep enough that a shooting stick and binoculars are useful, not optional. Axis deer aren't whitetails—they're vigilant, skittish, and require real hunting skills to close the distance.
Your guide helps field-dress and ice the animal. No further processing available (you handle deboning). Axis venison is lean, tender, and tastes nothing like supermarket meat.
Nobu's legacy wasn't about trophies. It was about respect for the hunt, camaraderie with guests, and sharing the best hunting grounds on Molokai.
Strict protocols on every hunt: - Firearms unloaded when not in use - Unloaded and placed in outdoor gun rack between hunts - Barrel always pointed in safe direction - Never chamber ammo while riding UTV - Safety on, but never rely on it alone - Treat every firearm as loaded - Know your target and what's beyond it - Buck antlers over 27" trigger a trophy fee - Soft velvet bucks off-limits unless guide authorizes - Hunter orange required in field - Follow your guide's instructions without question
- •Wide assortment of firearms available for rent
- •Target range (up to 600 yards) for zeroing before the hunt
- •Private land access (no dodging other hunters)
- •Second and third-generation guides with intimate land knowledge
- •Emphasis on ethical, responsible hunting
You must bring: - Valid Hawaii hunting license (get hunter education number at hunting.ehawaii.gov) - Meals and drinks for entire hunt - Bags and coolers for meat storage - For bow hunters: all-terrain, ankle-supporting boots; camouflage apparel; mental toughness for long stalks
Available for purchase on-site: - Bottled water (individual or case) - Healthy snack bars - Plastic meat storage bags - Soft cooler bags
