Full description and what we offer
Kealia Ranch operates a working ranch across diverse elevations on Mauna Loa, offering weekend guided hunts for serious hunters. The operation spans from lush lowland forests at 1,000 feet up to alpine sheep country at 6,500 feet—terrain changes completely as you gain elevation, and the scenery alone makes the hunt memorable.
All hunts are guided only—maximum one hunter per day, with the option to bring one ride-along for an additional fee. The guide will locate game and help you stalk. You get transported up the mountain in a 4x4 vehicle, so you don't need to hike in cold.
What to bring: Lightweight rain-proof jacket, sturdy boots, lightweight hunting clothes. Box lunch and drinks are provided.
Hunt by rifle or bow and arrow. Kealia Ranch has firearms available for rental with ammunition included—no need to travel with your own guns to Hawaii.
License Requirements: You must have a valid Hawaii Hunting License and appropriate Game Tags. Proof of a Hunter's Safety Course from your home state is required. You can purchase your license online before arrival or through the ranch the day of your hunt (by prior arrangement with your guide).
All hunts are booked directly with guide Jon Sabati at [email protected]. Hunts run weekends only since the ranch operates as a working property during weekdays.
The elevation changes everything—temperature, vegetation, and game all shift as you climb. You'll see wild mango and kukui nut at the base, native Ohia and Hapu'u fern in the middle elevations, and the massive Acacia Koa at 3,500 feet mixed with sandalwood before reaching sheep country at the top.
