Full description and what we offer
The Boise River WMA Archery Range is a free, public 3D archery course located in the Boise Foothills on Idaho Fish and Game's Boise River Wildlife Management Area. This mile-long walk-through range features 20 target stations with three-dimensional foam animals that simulate hunting scenarios across varying distances and terrain.
The range is conveniently located just 30 minutes from downtown Boise, accessed via East Highland Valley Road off Idaho 21, approximately 9 miles from Interstate 84 Exit 57. The facility sits at 1.2 miles up the road in the scenic Foothills, providing an easily accessible outdoor archery experience for Treasure Valley residents.
Boise River WMA Archery Range welcomes archers of all skill levels and experience. The course is designed for both traditional and compound bows (crossbows are not permitted) and is rated as intermediate difficulty—challenging enough to remain engaging for repeat visits but accessible for beginners.
Range Features: - Mile-long walk-through course with 20 stations - 3D foam targets imitating Idaho game animals - Practice range with warm-up area at course entrance - Dedicated broadhead shooting lane for hunters preparing for season - Hilly terrain—hiking boots recommended - No charge to use the facility
The range operates sunup to sundown from May 1 to November 15, weather permitting. Winter closure (November 16 – April 30) protects the WMA's primary purpose: providing winter range for mule deer and minimizing disturbance to wintering big game.
As a public Wildlife Management Area facility, the range operates with minimal infrastructure. There are no restrooms, water, or trash service. The facility operates on a strict "pack-in, pack-out" basis—users must remove all trash and targets. Parking is available at the trailhead.
The range was made possible through collaboration between Idaho Fish and Game, Back Country Hunters and Anglers, Idaho State Bowhunters, Treasure Valley Bowhunters, Idaho Traditional Bowhunters, and the City of Boise. Construction was funded by Pittman-Robertson federal funds derived from hunting and archery equipment sales—not hunting license revenue.
