Full description and what we offer
The Idaho Free Trappers recreate the authentic lifestyle of pre-1840s mountain men, fur trappers, and Native Americans. This living history club goes beyond casual reenactment - members strive for complete authenticity in everything from buckskin clothing and lodge construction to period tools and muzzleloading firearms.
The club hosts monthly shoots featuring black powder rifles and pistols, plus knife and tomahawk throwing competitions. These events combine historical education with genuine frontier skills competition.
Contact for Monthly Events: - Bill Uhl (Booshway): 208-989-2215 - Debbie Uhl (Treasurer): 208-703-2639
New to muzzleloading? No weapon required to observe competitions - members welcome spectators interested in learning about frontier life.
All family members can participate in Idaho Free Trappers activities. The club emphasizes education alongside recreation, teaching traditional buckskinning skills and frontier survival techniques authentic to the mountain man era.
Firearm safety knowledge is mandatory for all shooting participants. The club maintains strict safety protocols during muzzleloader competitions and training sessions.
Members participate in: - Rendezvous events - Multi-day historical gatherings - Educational demonstrations at local venues - Veterans parade participation - Sportsman show exhibitions
"We are constantly striving to be as authentic, realistic and true to the spirit of the Mountain Men, Women and Native Americans of this distinct period of American History."
The Idaho Free Trappers offer a unique blend of historical education, marksmanship competition, and traditional skills preservation that you won't find at conventional shooting clubs.
