The region produces high populations of color phase black bears. Spring hunts target bears in clear cuts, burn areas, and meadows using spot-and-stalk methods. Fall hunts focus on berry patches where boars fatten on huckleberries.
Fall bear hunts can be combined with wolf hunting for a specially priced combo hunt.
Archery elk hunts happen during peak bugling season on high alpine ridges and through cedar and Douglas fir forests. Rifle hunts adapt to snow levels, covering clear cuts, burn areas, or lowland agricultural edges. Late-season December archery offers unique snow-dusted wilderness hunting.
"This hunt features chasing mature Idaho bulls in rugged mountain scenery"
Minimum rifle caliber: .300 or larger recommended for elk
Guided fishing trips include full-day and half-day options on the Kootenai River and Moyie River. Trip styles range from floating excursions to wade fishing crystal-clear streams. Guides target both experienced anglers and first-timers.
Unique backcountry camping trips feature pack goats carrying gear through North Idaho's wilderness. The goats navigate rugged trails, lush forests, and pristine meadows while adding an interactive element to wilderness expeditions.
Lion's Head Outfitters partners with veteran organizations to provide healing wilderness experiences for wounded warriors and first responders, drawing on the founders' belief in North Idaho wilderness as therapy.
