Full description and what to expect
El Buscaderos hosts regular Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS) competitions on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. This is a dynamic shooting sport that combines accuracy, speed, and period-style firearms in a fun, competitive format inspired by the Old West.
Cowboy Action Shooting matches feature multiple stages, each with a unique scenario. You'll shoot at steel and paper targets while moving between stations, sometimes drawing from a holster. Stages are timed, and accuracy counts—missing targets or hitting props adds penalties to your score. The sport rewards both marksmanship and efficiency.
This event welcomes shooters with basic firearm safety knowledge and handling experience. You don't need to be a competitive shooter to participate—many competitors focus on having fun and enjoying the community. That said, you should be comfortable with your equipment and able to follow range commands safely.
Matches typically consist of 4-6 stages, each taking 5-10 minutes to shoot. Competitors shoot in squads, watching and supporting each other between stages. Plan for 2-3 hours total, depending on match size and the number of shooters.
El Buscaderos draws a friendly crowd of shooters who share a passion for the sport. Many competitors wear period-inspired attire (hat, boots, leather) to add to the Western atmosphere, though it's not required.
