The Idaho State Trapshooting Championships is a competitive clay target shooting event hosted at the Pocatello Trap Club. Shooters compete in a timed format where clay targets are launched from a mechanical trap house, and competitors fire from designated shooting stations to break as many targets as possible.
Trap shooting typically features: - Multiple rounds of 25-target sets - Five shooting positions per round - Rotation through stations as competitors take their turns - Individual and team scoring divisions - Divisions based on skill level and experience
This state championship draws competitive shooters ranging from club-level competitors to experienced marksmen. Participants should have: - Basic shotgun handling and safety proficiency - Experience at local trap ranges or similar shooting sports - Ability to stand and shoot for extended periods - Familiarity with clay target sports
Beginners are welcome to compete, though prior range experience at a trap club is recommended before entering a state-level competition.
Events typically include classifications for different experience levels, allowing shooters to compete fairly within their skill range.
