Full description and what to expect
The Idaho State Trap Shooting Association hosts this four-day state championship at the Boise Gun Club. Trap shooting tests your ability to break clay targets launched from a single house at varying angles and distances.
This is a competitive ATA-sanctioned event where shooters face clay birds thrown at 16 yards, 20 yards, and beyond. Competition typically runs multiple squads throughout each day, with shooters rotating through different shooting positions. The format is straightforward: break as many targets as possible in each round to earn points toward overall placement.
Trap shooting attracts shooters of all backgrounds—from hunters maintaining their marksmanship to dedicated competitors. Participants range from beginners shooting their first registered event to seasoned shooters with years of competition experience. The ATA structure accommodates various skill levels through different divisions and yardage options.
Competitors shoot clay birds from the trap house, working through multiple rounds across the event dates. The ATA scoring system is straightforward: each broken target counts as one point. Awards are typically given by division and shooting category.
The event takes place at Boise Gun Club, a well-maintained facility equipped with multiple trap machines and shooting stations.
