Full description and what to expect
USPSA (United States Practical Shooting Association) competitions at Pits 1-7 feature dynamic, action-oriented pistol stages designed to test both marksmanship and tactical thinking. Shooters navigate multiple targets arranged across different scenarios, engaging paper targets, steel, and sometimes moving or partially hidden objectives.
This match uses 7 separate stages set up across the range pits. Each stage presents a unique problem to solve—you might start from different positions (standing, kneeling, or behind cover), engage targets at varying distances, and transition between shooting positions. Stages are typically 10-20 rounds each, and scoring combines time with accuracy penalties.
USPSA events draw shooters from complete beginners to experienced competitors. If you shoot pistols regularly and want to test your skills in a structured format, this is the right event. First-timers should expect to learn the scoring system and stage procedures—most competitors are welcoming to newcomers.
USPSA offers multiple divisions based on equipment and shooting style, including Stock Service Pistol (SSP), Custom Defensive Pistol (CDP), Open, and Limited divisions. Check with the Nampa Rod and Gun Club for which divisions are running at this match.
Shooters walk through stages, review targets and positions, then shoot under time pressure. Results are calculated on combined time and accuracy. Bring your game and be prepared to learn—competitive shooting is as much about managing the mental challenge as it is marksmanship.
