Full description and what to expect
Zone Trap Shooting Competition brings together shotgun shooters across multiple Idaho gun clubs for organized clay target shooting. Trap is a straightforward discipline: shooters stand at a firing line and break clay targets launched from a mechanical trap house positioned ahead of the field.
Competitors shoot at clay targets from a set distance, typically engaging targets that fly away from the trap house at varying angles. Rounds are scored on the number of targets broken, and shooters are organized into divisions based on experience and performance history. The competition format follows standard trap rules with multiple squads rotating through shooting stations.
Trap attracts shooters from beginners to experienced competitors. If you shoot a shotgun and want to measure your accuracy against others in a structured format, this event is for you. No exotic equipment required—standard shotguns and ammunition work fine. The sport rewards consistency and focus.
With competitions hosted across various Idaho gun clubs, you'll find events convenient to your location throughout the region. Each club maintains its own range and hosts scheduled competitions.
Regular trap shooting improves shotgun fundamentals: sight picture, swing, trigger control, and follow-through. Competing against others pushes you to perform under pressure and identify areas for improvement.
