Bogus Basin Nordic Team runs one of Idaho's few organized biathlon programs, combining precision .22LR rifle marksmanship with cross-country skiing. Biathlon is a CMP-recognized shooting discipline and Olympic sport that demands accuracy under cardiovascular stress.
Athletes ski a course and stop at designated firing points to engage five targets at 50 meters with a .22LR rifle. Missed targets add penalty laps. Competitions use both prone and standing shooting positions.
BBNT's biathlon program operates within their broader Nordic club structure. Training covers rifle fundamentals, positional shooting, heart-rate management, and race strategy. Programs accommodate youth through masters-level athletes, including adaptive athletes.
Training runs through the winter season at Bogus Basin, roughly 16 miles north of downtown Boise. Summer dry-fire and conditioning programs keep athletes sharp in the off-season.
