Full description and what we offer
Stone Horse Outfitters operates from a bear camp approximately 3 hours north of Edmonton, positioned in some of Alberta's most productive black bear habitat. Their 7,500 square kilometer hunting territory has established itself as one of the province's most consistent producers of trophy-class bears.
You'll see 25+ bears per week during a standard 6-day hunt. The outfitter has higher than normal density of color phase bears, with some years averaging 30-40% chocolate, cinnamon, and blonde bears mixed into the population. Bears regularly reach 7 feet and weigh upwards of 400 pounds.
Guides use varied stand setups depending on terrain and conditions: climbing stands, hang-on stands, tree stands, ground blinds, and box blinds. The strategy is simple—put you where the bears are, with multiple options to adapt to weather and geography.
"Reid and his guides will work as hard as they can to get you on good quality bears. Not to mention the amazing food too!" — Joe Huggler, Spring 2025
Stone Horse doesn't chase high numbers through overhunting. Their boar-to-sow ratio stays healthy because they understand that trophy management is about age structure, not density. Hunted areas get left alone the following year to allow mature boars to establish before returning. This balance maintains quality while preventing bears from getting pushed away from the hunting area.
You're staying in heated canvas wall tents with high-quality wood stoves. The 16x24 heated cook tent is where meals happen—prepared daily by a full-time cook. Camp runs on wood heat and has fully functioning, heated private shower facilities.

A client from Wisconsin drove 1,700 miles and took home 2 bears, calling it "worth every mile." Another group of three from South Carolina reported seeing 5 bears on their first two hunts, with multiple opportunities for second bears.
