Hopkins County Sportsmen & Sportswomen Club started in 2022 when a group of outdoor enthusiasts realized they needed collective voice to impact wildlife policy. By March 2023, three founding members had officially launched HCSSC as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Today, they're one of Western Kentucky's most active conservation and youth education organizations.
Youth & Education Programs - "Take a Kid Fishing" events at Lockmary Lake (distributed 200+ fishing poles to children) - Gun safety and hunting education sessions - Youth scholarships for summer camps focused on wildlife conservation - Free public archery training courses (expanding program)
Conservation Projects - Mortons Gap Lake Restoration Project: lake restocking, invasive species removal, added benches and new fishing dock - Partnership with Kentucky Department of Fish & Wildlife Resources - 3D archery course development in Earlington (planned as free community resource) - Future public archery and firearm range (in development with state agency)
Community Events - Annual Hopkins County Sportsmen's Outdoor Expo (3rd annual in 2026, moving to Ballard Convention Center) - Monthly meetings and member events - Permit giveaways for specialty hunting opportunities
Their annual expo draws thousands of attendees with 50+ vendors, 16+ sponsors, and $11,000+ in giveaways. 2026 is expanding into larger venue space with dedicated indoor/outdoor booth options. They host:
"Every dollar donated directly supports local projects, outdoor events, and educational initiatives that nurture the love of nature and responsible outdoor practices among all ages."
Since achieving 501(c)(3) status, HCSSC has secured grants including a $2,000 Walmart local community grant that funded the Mortons Gap Lake project. They're actively pursuing additional grants for land acquisition, camp facilities, and range development.
