Full description and what we offer
Licking River Outfitters is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to providing free hunting adventures to combat-wounded soldiers, disabled veterans, and disadvantaged youth. Founded by Robin Gassett—a Vietnam-era Army veteran and lifelong hunter with nearly 50 years of guide experience—and his wife Ellen, a retired postal service postmaster, the operation has served over 2,000 disabled hunters since 2006.
Robin's first hunter on their Kentucky farm was his younger brother Mike, an Army veteran battling stage 4 cancer. Mike took a 15-point buck that first season, then passed away months later. That same year, a 14-year-old boy with spina bifida asked if Robin could take him turkey hunting. Confined to a wheelchair, the kid got his bird—and the look on his face changed everything.
"These experiences led Robin and Ellen to realize how fortunate they were to have experienced their hunting adventures and how others with disabilities might not ever have the same opportunities."
The operation runs on a 600-acre farm in northern Kentucky, fully managed for trophy deer and turkey. Every single donation goes directly to funding hunts—zero overhead from leadership. In 2022 alone, they took nearly 100 wounded or disabled soldiers and youth hunters at no cost.
Key Details: - 100% volunteer staff (veterans and civilians) - On-site meals and lodging provided - Trophy deer and turkey hunts - Open to public visits (call ahead) - 18+ years of continuous operation
