Calcasieu Rod and Gun

Calculasieu Rod and Gun operates guided fishing and hunting trips out of Sulphur, Louisiana—roughly 2.5 hours from Houston and 15 minutes south of Lake Charles. They target anglers and hunters looking for hands-on experiences in the Calcasieu waterways and surrounding bayous.

Captain Tommy Adams runs a 24ft Nautic Star Bay Boat powered by a 250 HP Tohatsu. The shallow-draft design gets you deep into the bayous where fish hold. The boat comfortably accommodates 3 anglers, with room for up to 4. You get oversized coolers for your catch, latest fishing electronics, and an ice chest stocked for drinks.

Best fishing windows: Spring and fall. Calm days with clear water typically mean tight lines and loaded coolers.

Seasonal guided duck hunts run mornings for the best shot at success. You might encounter gadwall, pintail, wigeon, and teal. Alligator hunts available September–October (book early—limited tags). Hog and coyote hunts year-round, most comfortable in spring and fall.
