Northern Hideaway Outfitters has been running fall bear hunts in Northern Maine for over 25 years. Their property sits 50 miles from the closest town, meaning zero tourist interference and minimal technology distractions—just you, the forest, and the bears.
Guided Hunts ($2,800) Paired with experienced Maine bear hunting guides who handle the heavy lifting. They scout baiting locations, transport you to tree stands, track wounded bears, and process your kill. You get lodging in cabins, three meals daily, river access for kayaking, and shower facilities throughout the week. Limited to 12 hunters per week.
DIY Hunts ($2,100) For hunters who want to manage their own bear tracking and stand placement. Cabins provided, full access to the 136,000 acres and Big Black River for fishing. Skinning and packaging available for an additional fee. Requires a minimum group of four. Maximum 4 hunters per week.

Black bear season runs late August through end of September. They book 16 hunters per week total (12 guided, 4 DIY), and fall dates fill quickly. Already booking for 2026.
The outfitter also offers moose hunting ($6,500), upland bird hunting ($4,500+), and fishing opportunities on the Big Black River for muskie and trout. They provide a hunting gear checklist, bear hunting FAQ, liability waivers, and tracking assistance for wounded bears.
