Full description and what we offer
Bulldog Camps has operated out of Jackman, Maine since the 1890s. Located on Enchanted Pond in the Western Mountains near the Moosehead region, the camp sits on historic ground—the shores still scatter fossil rocks from millions of years ago, and the famous log sluice built by Henry McKenney remains a local landmark.
"We are back for our second year, and had as much fun as the first. We saw 9 moose, 1 coyote, many ruffed grouse, and beautiful scenery. Darren, Sierra & Jordan have a special life going on here." — Sue & John Green, Kennebunkport, ME
Bulldog Camps holds exclusive hunting rights to over 50 square miles surrounding Enchanted Pond, plus a separate 40 square mile parcel for Maine's spring bear hunt. This means minimal hunting pressure and better odds across multiple game species.
Mainе's black bear population is at record highs. Bulldog guides hunters from first-timers looking for their first bear to veterans hunting 500+ pound bruisers. October season with full guide service.
Maine hasn't had a spring bear hunt in over 25 years—Bulldog Camps is one of the few outfitters able to offer it, thanks to leases through the Passamaquoddy Indian Tribe. Hunt remote land in the Western Mountains holds significant bear numbers.
Mainе has the largest moose population in the United States. Zone 8 (where Bulldog operates) issues 175 bull-only permits annually for October season. Hunt the largest game animal in North America. Applications due May 14th.
The Western Mountains produce some of Maine's largest bucks. Full-guided hunts (scouting done in advance, tree stands pre-placed in productive spots) or semi-guided hunts available. Hunt from your cabin door in low-pressure territory.
Coyote population has surged in Maine, making for exciting, productive hunts. Bait hunting is Bulldog's specialty. September 1–December 1.
Ruffled grouse and woodcock in early season; snowshoe hare hunts October–December 1. Dog-friendly but not required.
Enchanted Pond is 202 feet deep and holds native brook trout. Most fish run 8–12 inches, though 3–4 pounders are caught regularly. Fish from ice-out through late September using lead-core trolling or dry flies. Fully guided fly fishing trips to remote fly-only ponds available. Rent 14' aluminum boats (6 HP Yamaha), canoes, or kayaks.

"Thank you for the excellent food, spotless cabin and guide service! But most of all thank you for the conversation, laughter and sharing your days with us! We can't want to come back." — Sharon & Greg Staples, Portland, ME
Hunters and families consistently praise the food, cabins, hospitality of the Savage family, wildlife viewing (moose, eagles, coyotes, bears), and the camaraderie. The remote location on pristine water with minimal development is the draw.
