Full description and what we offer
Paintball is capture-the-flag in the woods with paintball markers instead of dodgeballs. Two teams start at opposite ends of a field, each defending a flag at their base. When you get hit and marked by paint, you're out—but at Midcoast, they use a recycle format, which means you head to a designated area and get back in the game rather than sitting out until the next round.
Markers shoot 68-caliber paint pellets (gelatin capsules filled with water-soluble dye) at 200-300 feet per second. The pellets are light and break open on impact, so you get a stinging sensation rather than serious pain. Closer range = more sting. Expect a few welts after a day of play, but most injuries come from terrain—scrapes and bruises from running through the woods.
Paintball demands proper gear. Players always wear protective goggles (most wear full masks too), and fields enforce these rules strictly. Barrel plugs prevent accidental firing in safe areas. Ignore safety protocols and you'll get kicked out.
You don't need to own equipment or join a team. Midcoast welcomes walk-on players and rents guns and gear to beginners. Just call ahead to confirm they have a game scheduled that day. Most players show up, grab rental equipment, and jump into a pickup game.
