OMM Outfitters

OMM Outfitters in Eagle Lake operates the state's biggest moose hunting outfit, staffed by 31 Registered Maine Guides who live and breathe moose season year-round. Founded in 2002 by Ken Mayo and owner Nathan Theriault, the operation has built its reputation on serious field experience and uncompromising expertise.

Moose hunting consumes this crew's attention. While they also offer bear and waterfowl hunts, moose is what drives the operation—and it shows. Rather than gatekeeping their knowledge, OMM Outfitters launched the Moose Hunt Podcast, Maine's first podcast dedicated exclusively to moose hunting.

The show debuted in August 2022 with two episodes and quickly gained traction: over 1,000 downloads, listeners in 240 cities, and audiences as far away as Finland. New episodes air weekly the first month, then twice monthly through the season.

The Moose Hunt Podcast features interviews with OMM's guides discussing practical tactics, ethical shot placement, hunting camp traditions, and hard-won lessons from the field. Chris Richards, who also serves as Vice President of Enrollment Management at the University of Maine, hosts the show with a deliberate low-key, self-deprecating style. Episodes cover everything from advance scouting to choosing the right firearm—Richards even shares a story about using an unfamiliar gun that malfunctioned during a moose hunt.

The goal is clear: help DIY hunters and remote camp enthusiasts avoid expensive mistakes while giving everyone an appreciation for Maine's hunting tradition and the people who sustain it.
