Full description and what we offer
Penobscot Bay Outfitters specializes in Maine sea duck hunting from October through mid-January. Eiders, oldsquaws, and scoters winter in the coastal waters in large numbers with a five-duck daily limit. The outfitter practices selective drake shooting to ensure population sustainability.
Hunts start at legal shooting time and run through sunrise to catch morning flights. They offer two setups:
After morning sea duck action, hunters often transition to puddle ducks (black ducks, goldeneyes, mergansers) or continue sea duck hunting based on preference.
Turkey hunts (spring, permit required) run in the mid-coastal region with high success rates. They use proper calling, scouting, and decoys. Rates: $250 for 1-day/1-bird, $300 for 1-day/2-birds, $550 for 3-day/2-birds.
Ruffed grouse and woodcock hunts run September-October with leisurely pacing—breakfast at 7 am, hunt 3-4 covers before lunch, continue after. They have flushing labs or you can bring your own dogs. The mid-coast has old farms, orchards, and clear cuts producing good flushes.
Canadian goose hunts (September-November) use decoy spreads in fields or on water with Bigfoot and Real Geese decoys, hay bale blinds, and Final Approach blinds.
Deer and moose hunting also available—September bow hunts for coastal island bucks, October moose hunts with bow or firearms (permit required).
Tod Jackson leads Penobscot Bay Outfitters and is a Life member of NAHC and NRA, plus DU donor and member of the Professional Maine Guides Association. They book parties of 1-8 hunters and offer combination hunts—morning sea ducks with afternoon puddle ducks or deer, for example. Video and references available on request.
