Location details and information

Stemmers Run Rifle and Pistol Club develops young shooters into expert marksmen through a structured gun safety and marksmanship program. The Junior Rifle Team is open to youth ages 10-21 and operates on a simple principle: shooting is a co-ed skill sport where mental toughness and discipline matter more than physical size or ability.

All participants start with rifle safety and fundamentals before touching a trigger. Youth learn proper handling, loading, aiming, and firing techniques in the three standard shooting positions: prone, kneeling, and standing. Beginners master the easier positions before advancing to more challenging ones.

The club has never had a rifle-related injury in its junior program history.

Weekly practices are led by NRA-trained coaches using high-quality equipment. The program runs year-round:

  • Spring/Summer/Early Fall: Outdoor .22 caliber smallbore rifle training
  • Year-Round: Air rifle training at the Memorial Hall indoor range

Once shooters move past basics, they learn advanced techniques and competition skills. Advanced juniors compete in:

Stemmers Run provides all the gear beginners need to get started—rifles, ammunition, and necessary equipment. The only cost to families is guardian registration with the club. As juniors excel and want to continue seriously, they can invest in their own equipment.

Meet the Coaches: Head Coach Jim Stevens holds NRA Air Rifle, Smallbore, and High Power certifications plus 4-H instructor credentials. Assistant Coach Scott Reed is an NRA Level One Rifle Coach and Chief Range Safety Officer.

The club's goal is helping young people build positive experiences and carry shooting sports traditions and values into adulthood—hopefully sharing that passion with friends and families down the road.
