Full description and what we offer
Brackish Outfitters is headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts and operates as an independent fly fishing guide service and custom rod builder. Owner Geoff Klane has spent the last 10 years chasing fish across New England's freshwater and salt-water fisheries.
Geoff runs guided fishing trips ranging from half-day (4 hours) to full-day (8 hours) excursions. He also builds custom fishing rods tailored to your needs and fishing goals. All trips include:
Brook Trout in Central & Western Massachusetts
Wilderness fly fishing for native wild brook trout in small, meandering streams between Route 495 and Route 91. The region features old stone walls, serene forests, and crystal-clear water packed with what Geoff calls "bespeckled beauties." This fishing requires precision casting skills and knowledge of tight woodland creeks. Trips run March 15 through October 15, with off-season winter trips available starting in January.
Carp in the Lowell Canal System
Unique urban fishing in downtown Lowell's National Park Service-protected canal network—six miles of historic water steeped in 200-year-old textile industry heritage. These canals are now teeming with powerful carp, large sunfish, and smallmouth bass. No waders or specialized gear required, making this ideal for beginners or anyone without their full kit. Available April through August.
Striped Bass on Cape Cod
Salt-water fly and spin casting for striped bass off Cape Cod beaches, salt flats, and from boat. These trips operate seasonally and are treated as special events rather than regular bookings—Geoff limits availability to a few times per season because stripers face real conservation pressure from climate change and overfishing.
Geoff is the lead organizer of the annual Save the Stripers fundraiser, which has raised over $30,000 for striped bass conservation. He's been featured on NPR for this work and appeared on chef Brad Leone's Local Legends series.

The process starts with a free consultation to understand your fishing goals and preferences. All guided trip clients can test-drive Brackish custom rods at no additional charge.
All skill levels welcome—beginner to experienced. Kids 13 and up can join their adult on guided trips. No prior fly fishing experience required. Geoff's teaching style offers as much or as little instruction as you want.
