Fennville Rod and Gun Club started in 1954 when local hunters decided to actually do something about out-of-town goose hunters overrunning area farms. Seven guys—George Woodward, Mike Dalieden, Orville Atkins, Dutch Atkins, Charlie Dickinson, Skip Bale, and Art Paul—formed a club. They've been growing ever since.
Today, FRGC sits on 20 acres in the heart of the Allegan State Game Area, 20 minutes from everything and accessible only if you know where to look. The club's tagline says it best: "Just a little old gun club at the end of a dirt road."
Trap and Skeet Ranges - Three trap ranges (one added in recent years on the old skeet field) - Two skeet fields (one lighted) - Lighted trap fields for evening shoots - Voice-activated releases on trap fields (added 2007) - White Flyer clay pigeons - Open shooting: Saturdays 12pm-5pm year-round, Tuesdays 5-9pm (April-October, plus winter schedule)
Rifle and Pistol Range - Covered range (built 2010) - Shooting berms at 25, 50, 100, 200, and 400 meters - Members only during rifle range hours (except Trap/Skeet times) - Guests allowed (max 2 per member, only 1 shooting at a time, 3 visits per year limit) - No .50 BMG rifles allowed - Safety protocols strictly enforced
Clubhouse - Full air-conditioned facility with plenty of seating - Wood stove for winter shooting - Licensed kitchen (Allegan County Health Dept approved, fully renovated 2020) - Bar service - Meeting space - Gun Room (added 2010) - Covered extension for events (added 2019)

Membership year runs January 1 - December 31. New members must apply in person, show picture ID, and complete a safety orientation (about 30 minutes). Membership requires sponsorship by an existing member. Orientations offered Saturdays at 2:00pm.
Regular Schedule - Open Trap/Skeet: Saturday 12pm-5pm (year-round), Tuesday 5-9pm (April-October + winter evenings) - Pancake Breakfasts: 2nd Sunday each month, 8am-11am (April-October). $7 all-you-can-eat: eggs, pancakes, sausage, milk or coffee - Egg Shoots: Monthly on Sundays (April 21, May 19, June 16, July 21, August 18, September 15, October 20), 9am start - Friday Night Fun Shoot: Last Friday each month (January-October), 5pm start. Calcutta-style protection shoot, family-friendly, food available - WMCC Calcutta: 2nd Sunday each month (January-October), 10am setup, 12:30pm start, food available - Winter League (2026): January 13 - March 31. 250 targets per discipline. Disciplines include Trap (16 yd), Trap Doubles, Trap Wobble, Trap Back Fence (27 yd), Skeet, Pee-wee Skeet (.410). League fees: $20 first discipline, $10 each additional. Prizes based on Lewis class system
Special Events - Fennville Grand: August 10-11 (major event) - Labor Day Chicken BBQ: September 2, 1pm, members and family (club supplies chicken and corn, bring a dish to pass) - Holiday Bash: December 14, 5pm (members only, food provided) - Monthly Meetings: 2nd Thursday each month, 7pm (members only; board meets at 6pm)

FRGC has expanded steadily since 1954: - 1956: Clubhouse rebuilt from donated school building (Claire Harrington) - 1973: Electricity added, skeet fields built - 1983: North trap field added, bathroom addition - 1985: Storage room added - 1991: Pole barn added - 2005: Interior remodeled with pine siding, bar and stone wood stove installed - 2007: Two voice-activated releases purchased - 2010: Gun Room added, concrete poured at rifle range, covered rifle range and storage building built, Woodshed added, parking lot new gravel - 2020: Roof replaced on clubhouse, kitchen completely renovated with new equipment, third trap field added, lead recovery completed on shot drop zone
The club undergoes lead recovery operations to maintain safe shooting grounds. Recent safety protocols include combination-lock gates (same combo as range building, listed on membership card) and strict rifle range rules.
