Forest Lake Sportsmen's Club

Forest Lake Sportsmen's Club started with local shooters who wanted a safe place to shoot with their families. Founded informally around 1916 and incorporated in 1937, the club has grown from a small parcel carved out by members into a 102-acre facility north of the Twin Cities.

Rifle Range (Gate #1) - Year-Round for Members - 25-yard pistol range - 50-yard rifle range - 100-yard rifle range - 200, 300, and 400-yard ranges (covered from elements) - Target camera system on long-range bays (see targets from firing line) - Fixed-distance, no blue-sky design for safety - NRL22 monthly precision rifle matches open to public

Shotgun Range (Gate #2) - April through Mid-October Public Season - 6 Trap fields - 2 Skeet fields - 5-Stand layout - Sporting Clays course - Heated 5-Stand available in winter (January onwards) - Public hours: Saturdays and Sundays, 10am-3pm (winter) - Last check-in 30 minutes before closing

Deer Rifle Sight-In (Fall Public Event)

Leading up to Minnesota and Wisconsin deer seasons, the rifle range opens to public hunters. Volunteers staff the ranges with targets set at 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, and 400 yards. Shooters from across the Twin Cities use this to zero in before the season. Expect a bonfire and friendly atmosphere.

Archery Range (Members Only) - Full archery range with 3D walk-through course - Free to members year-round

• •Trap: Five-shooter squads, 25 targets per round. Five positions with random trap rotation. ATA shoots held throughout season.

• •Skeet: Eight positions in semi-circle setup, 25-target rounds. NSCA shoots available.

• •Sporting Clays: 50-100 bird courses simulating field shooting. Standard, midi, mini, and battue targets. Pre-mounted or low-gun approach.

• •5-Stand: Compressed sporting clays format. Six to eight thraps throwing different target types in compressed space. Typical 25-bird game.

Team size: 5 people max, 3 minimum for combo league.

Action Shooting: - Monthly USPSA matches - 3-Gun matches - 2-Gun matches - Dedicated action shooting bays (Gate #3) - Check calendar for specific event dates

Membership Structure: - Limited to 750 members (currently on waiting list) - One-time initiation: $526 (includes one membership share certificate) - Annual dues: $250 (or $50 if you volunteer 16 hours/year) - Family coverage: Member, spouse, and children under 18

Member Benefits: - Rifle range access year-round (no charge, posted hours) - Reduced shareholder pricing on all shotgun sports - Free archery range access - Handgun leagues during season - Can use ranges during non-league days with personal equipment

Becoming a Member: - Complete membership application - Wait for approval notification (added to list in order received) - No fees due until approved - New members receive orientation tour and benefits packet

• •1940s - Club fire nearly ended operations; rebirth through $100 membership shares

• •1950s - Five trap fields + two skeet fields built; 300-yard rifle range added; clubhouse doubled in size

• •Late 1950s-Early 1960s - Additional land purchased west of clubhouse; club members and Boy Scouts planted the tall pines visible today

• •1970s-1980s - Continuous improvements; membership growth

• •Early 1990s - New rifle range built with 300-yard capability due to increased demand

• •Late 1990s - East property purchased, expanding total to 102 acres; perimeter fence installed for safety

• •Early 2000s - Archery range added; 5-stand built; rifle range extended to 400 yards

• •2012 - Full-time manager hired; action shooting bays constructed to expand shooting sports offerings

Public Participation: - Visit during posted public shotgun hours (winter: Sat-Sun 10am-3pm) - Participate in deer sight-in events (September/October) - Attend public NRL22 matches - Enter public USPSA, 3-Gun, or 2-Gun matches

Board Meetings: - Monthly board meetings held at Gate 2 Clubhouse (6:30pm-9pm) - Open to members in good standing

Volunteer Opportunities: - Work event staffing (receive dues credit via work hours) - Help offset $200 of annual dues with 16 hours yearly
