Full description and what we offer
Dakel Hog Hunts operates on a straightforward model: 100% fair chase hunting on wild feral hogs across their southeast Missouri property. Owners Dave and Kelly Sommerhauser built this around one principle—don't pen, don't stock, don't book multiple parties on the same land at the same time.
The hogs here are genuinely wild. The operation maintains the property specifically to support feral hog populations through a corn mix bait program (1,200 pounds weekly) and small food plots. No farm-raised animals, no released stock.
Night hunting matters. Feral hogs are nocturnal. Dakel emphasizes hard that field stands near feeders might look easy, but real success comes from sitting game trails from dusk to dawn. This isn't quick access hunting—it's actual hunting.
The property features multiple stands across the acreage: - Wood-style stands with ranges from 20 yards to 300+ yard field and power line shots - Stands positioned for wind direction changes - Setups for both bow and rifle hunting - Day hunting (woods and game trails) and night hunting (field and power line feeders)
Hunters aren't locked into a group. The recommendation is to spread out and cover as much area as possible—multiple hunters can work different sections simultaneously.
Beyond hunting, Dakel works to decrease Missouri's feral hog population through trapping and population monitoring to inform eradication efforts.
