Full description and what we offer
Capp's Taxidermy Studio LLC is a USDA-approved taxidermist operating out of Anaconda since the 1980s. This isn't a local-only shop—they mount trophy game from Africa, North America, Asia, and the South Pacific. If you took an animal from somewhere on Earth, Don Capp can preserve it.
African Game – Kudu, leopard, elephant, Cape buffalo, zebra, hippo, giraffe, sable antelope, and dozens of other African plains species. They handle everything from small heads ($650-$1,950) to full lifesize mounts ($1,900-$12,000+).
North American Trophy Mounts – Elk, moose, bear (black, grizzly, brown), mule deer, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, bison, musk ox, mountain goat. Shoulder mounts start around $685 (mountain lion) to $2,450 (bison). Full lifesize runs $4,250-$10,000+ depending on species.
International Species – Red stag, axis deer, sika, ibexes, Marco Polo sheep, blue bull, aoudad, fallow, blackbuck. Head mounts $750-$1,650. Lifesize $3,000-$7,700.
Fish & Waterfowl – Salmon, trout, pike, ducks, geese, pheasant, turkey, cranes. Fish pricing: $22/inch (skin mount), $34/inch (pedestal), $25-$28/inch (fiberglass). Minimum $500 per fish mount.
Fur Mounts – Bobcat, coyote, wolf, lynx, otter, badger, wolverine, raccoon. Lifesize mounts $500-$2,400. All open-mouth options add 15-20%.
Rugs & Novelties – Bear rugs ($225-$250/foot), leopard/lion rugs ($2,100-$2,200), ottomans, elephant foot stools, game pillows, warthog tusk panels, leg lamps.
They emphasize stacked pedestals—multiple animals on a single pedestal. Not your standard shoulder mount. If you want two or three specimens integrated into one display, this is their wheelhouse. Pedestal mounts run 35% extra across all pricing.
Standard turnaround is 10-14 months. Faster completion available but costs more. Completion clock starts when you make your down payment, not when you drop off the animal.
All international shipments are cleared at the studio after US customs clearance. USDA paperwork ($200-$365 per shipment) is handled in-house.
Bases and habitat displays are extra: $60 per linear foot (length × width). Full lifesize mounts especially benefit from proper habitat bases—most pricing doesn't include this.
Call ahead for custom quotes. Elephant, rhino, and large hippo mounts are priced "P.O.R." (price on request). Tanning services also available by quote.

Anaconda sits in southwestern Montana, about 45 minutes south of Missoula. If you're shipping a trophy from anywhere in the world, they handle the paperwork and logistics.
Most taxidermists specialize regionally—African shops, North American shops, bird shops. Capp's does all of it at professional competition level. The 43-year track record and USDA approval matter when you're entrusting a $5,000-$15,000 trophy mount.
Prices vary wildly by species and mount type. A shoulder mount kudu head runs $1,550. A full lifesize Lord Derby runs $12,000. A wolf rug is $1,350. Call with your specific animal and desired style for accurate pricing.
